Microsoft Secure Score Monitoring

How Does CIQ Cloud Work? From Fragmented Data to Operational Visibility

Modern IT environments rarely suffer from a lack of data.

Microsoft 365 has its administration and security information. Azure and AWS have their own portals. RMM and PSA platforms generate another set of operational data. AI platforms provide usage and cost information. DNS, security, compliance and asset management tools each provide another piece of the picture.

The problem is that these pieces rarely come together. IT teams and MSPs are therefore left moving between portals, exporting reports and trying to understand how information from one system relates to another.

CIQ® Cloud takes a different approach.

Rather than trying to replace every tool in your technology estate, CIQ Cloud connects to them, consolidates their information and creates a common operational visibility layer across your environment.

This enables organisations to move continuously through five stages:

Discover → Monitor → Understand → Govern → Optimise → Repeat.

That continuous lifecycle is at the heart of how CIQ Cloud works.

Start with the technology you already use

CIQ Cloud is designed around the reality that organisations use technology from many different vendors.

An environment might contain Microsoft 365 and Azure alongside Google Workspace, AWS, OpenAI, Claude, RMM platforms, PSA systems, IT asset management tools, DNS providers and specialist security services.

Each platform may be valuable in its own right. The visibility problem appears when you need to understand what is happening across all of them.

CIQ Cloud connects to these different services through APIs and integrations, allowing information from multiple sources to be brought together without requiring the organisation to standardise everything on a single vendor.

This is particularly important for MSPs, where the problem is multiplied across many customers.

Discover: know what is actually there

Operational visibility begins with discovery. Before you can effectively manage an environment, you need to know what exists: users, licences, devices, cloud services, AI applications, identities, security configurations and other technology assets.

CIQ Cloud brings information from connected systems together to help build that picture.

Discovery is also about finding the things that are easy to overlook. An inactive licensed Microsoft 365 user, an unexpected AI application, an old API key or a configuration that has drifted from the expected state may individually appear insignificant.

Across an organisation, or hundreds of MSP customers, they can represent significant cost, security and governance exposure.

Discovery therefore establishes the operational baseline from which everything else follows.

Monitor: turn discovery into continuous visibility

A traditional IT assessment provides a snapshot. The problem is that technology environments don't remain static. Users join and leave. Licences change. Security configurations drift. New applications appear. Cloud expenditure changes. AI adoption grows. Services experience problems.

CIQ Cloud continuously monitors connected data sources so that the picture created during Discovery doesn't immediately become obsolete.

Instead of repeatedly asking: "What does our environment look like today?" the organisation can start asking: "What has changed, and does that change matter?" That distinction is fundamental to Operational Visibility.

Understand: create context across different systems

Collecting more data isn't enough. The real value comes from understanding it.

CIQ Cloud uses a Unified Data Layer to consolidate and normalise information coming from different technology platforms. This allows information that would normally remain trapped in separate vendor portals to be analysed together.

Consider a simple example.

A Microsoft 365 licence report might tell you that a user has a licence. Usage information may show very little activity. Identity data might show the account hasn't logged in recently. HR or asset information could indicate that the person has left the organisation. Individually, these are separate pieces of information. Together, they tell a story.

That ability to add context is what moves CIQ Cloud beyond simply providing another monitoring dashboard.

The objective is not more data. It is better understanding.

From understanding to better QBRs

This becomes particularly powerful for MSPs. A traditional Quarterly Business Review can easily become a collection of statistics: tickets opened, tickets closed, uptime percentages and perhaps some licence or security information.

Operational visibility changes the conversation.

CIQ Cloud can help an MSP show what has changed across a customer's technology environment, where risks have developed, where money could potentially be saved and what should be prioritised next.

Instead of simply reporting activity, the QBR can become evidence of continuous service improvement. For example:

"We identified 23 inactive licensed accounts, improved the customer's security posture, detected three configuration changes requiring attention and identified opportunities to reduce licensing costs at the next renewal."

That is a considerably more valuable customer conversation than presenting a ticket count.

Govern: turn visibility into control

Once an organisation understands its environment, it becomes much easier to govern it.

CIQ Cloud can use information from different systems to highlight security posture, policy deviations, identity risks and compliance issues.

This is particularly useful because governance problems frequently cross product boundaries.

A security issue might involve an identity in Microsoft Entra ID, a device managed elsewhere and access to an external SaaS or AI application.

Looking at only one system can therefore provide a technically accurate but incomplete answer.

CIQ Cloud's broader operational view helps organisations identify these relationships and make more informed governance decisions. Visibility becomes the foundation for control.

Optimise: find opportunities to improve

The final stage is optimisation.

Once you continuously understand what exists, how it is being used and where problems are developing, you can begin making better decisions about cost, performance and technology strategy.

That might mean reclaiming unused licences, addressing security weaknesses, automating remediation, consolidating services or replacing an underperforming technology provider.

Importantly, CIQ Cloud's vendor-agnostic approach also means that changing an underlying product doesn't necessarily mean losing the operational view built around it.

A data source can potentially be changed while CIQ Cloud continues providing the common visibility and reporting layer above it.

That creates something increasingly valuable in modern IT environments: freedom of choice.

Technology decisions can be based on which platform delivers the best outcome rather than which platform owns the reporting dashboard.

It isn't a linear process

Optimisation isn't the end. Once something changes, there is something new to discover. Which is why the CIQ Cloud lifecycle is deliberately circular:

Discover → Monitor → Understand → Govern → Optimise → Repeat

Operatioal Viibility - from Data to Operational Intelligence

A new employee joins. A licence changes. Microsoft introduces a new security recommendation. Someone starts using a new AI service. A cloud workload grows unexpectedly. A supplier is replaced.

The environment changes, CIQ Cloud observes that change, and the lifecycle continues.

This is the difference between periodic reporting and continuous operational visibility.

One platform. Any source. Total visibility.

CIQ Cloud isn't intended to become yet another isolated dashboard competing for attention.

Its role is to sit across the technology estate and bring previously fragmented operational information together.

That means connecting different data sources, continuously monitoring change, adding context, identifying what matters and ultimately helping IT teams and MSPs make better decisions.

Discover what's there. Monitor what changes. Understand what it means. Govern what matters. Optimise what can be improved. Then do it again.

That's how CIQ® Cloud turns fragmented technology data into operational visibility—and operational visibility into measurable outcomes.
